A Sci-Fi Fantasy JauntA Sci-Fi Fantasy Jaunt

Gala Net is hoping to find the same success they once did with Allods, but without the controversy. In our latest preview, we take a look at the closed beta of Sevencore to see what this F2P title brings to the mix. Read on!

It’s not too much of a stretch to say that most import F2P MMORPGs are barely worth one’s time. But publisher Gala Net has been trying to change that mindset for years now. One could even say they succeeded (if with a few cash-shop blunders) with Allods Online. They’re trying to make a second strike with the upcoming sci-fi fantasy theme-park Sevencore from Noria. But in a world where many are clamoring for the death of the traditional WoW-alike, can Noria’s game make any dent at all? After spending a few hours with the title during its closed beta, I can’t say it’s going to topple Blizzard’s behemoth. But I can adequately say that it’s going to be a decently fun take on a familiar gameplay style… and it’s free to boot. Just don’t go expecting to be blown away by it, and you might find yourself enjoying what’s on offer.

Catching Up with PWICatching Up with PWI

Perfect World International is the flagship MMO from Perfect World Entertainment. It’s been around awhile but that doesn’t mean the dev team isn’t working constantly to keep the game fresh and interesting. We caught up with Product Manager Tony Liu to find out all that’s new with PWI. See what we discovered!
MMORPG: Can you give us a status of Perfect World International? How has the game been in recent months?

Tony Liu: PWI’s been going strong. In the past four months we released the Descent expansion as well as a major content update (Imperial Fury). These two additions to the game really focused on giving our veterans even more awesome end-game content. It was a nice way to round things out following last year’s Genesis expansion, which focused more on content for newer players with the introduction of a new race and starting zone.

Our Official World of Battles ReviewOur Official World of Battles Review

World of Battles is something of a hybrid between two other Worlds: World of Warcraft and World of Tanks. We’ve been putting World of Battles through its paces to get this review on site. See how it did. Played WoB? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
Looking at this game for the first time, a few other titles came swirling around in my head, most notably World of Tanks and World of Warcraft. Coincidentally, if you smash those two games together with a car crusher you see in Hollywood films, you get World of Battles. I have to emphasize on the crushing part, because where those two games struck gold, this struck foul balls. Taking the fantasy looks of various media floating around the industry and the single instance, strategic teamplay rewarding combat of the Total War series, you get a game that looks pretty and runs well, but with a fun factor that might be lacking

Five Surprising Things About The Secret WorldFive Surprising Things About The Secret World

In this week’s The List, we’re taking a look at five things that surprised us about The Secret World.
While character creation is poor, and this is almost painfully ironic, the breadth and quality of outfits to dress your ugly bastard up in are almost unmatched. There are simply tons of clothing options to pick and choose from in The Secret World, both in and out of the in-game cash shop.

Once Funcom expands on their character creation options (currently targeted for the end of August), The Secret World could possibly have some of the coolest looking characters on the MMO scene.

Official ReviewOfficial Review

We’re putting Gamania’s anime-themed free-to-play MMO, Divina, through its paces in our latest official review.

Time and time again throughout our lives we are told “don’t judge a book by its cover.” With most of us, it goes in one ear and out the other. No matter how many times the statement is proven correct and sage advice, we continue to jump to conclusions based on first appearances and impressions. I’m as guilty of it as anyone. When our lovely Editor Bill tasked me with reviewing Divina, I took one look at it and started cursing him. I admit, not fair that he should be the target of my verbal rage, but someone had to take the brunt of it. I believe I may have even thrown a couple things in his general direction. They bounced harmlessly off my wall, but it was the sentiment behind the throws that mattered right? Anyway, after my initial tantrum was over, I got the game installed and started playing. And well, after spending admittedly more time in the game than I needed to write this review, I have to say, once again, the aforementioned statement turned out to be very wise advice. So let’s get on to the review and see what Divina has to offer.

Counting the DayZCounting the DayZ

In this week’s Pokket Says, we weigh in on DayZ, the zombie survival that’s taken the FPS genre by storm over the past couple of months.
I’ve been having an absolute blast in DayZ. For those that don’t know, DayZ is a mod for Arma II, a tactical shooter for PC. I have been playing this game for about a week and a half and have found that it holds this addictive element to it that many other games I’ve played in the past lack. Maybe it is the promise of losing everything if you die, maybe it is the environment, maybe it is the uncertainty of friends versus foes in the game that gives you a rush when coming into contact with other players, maybe it is the fact it takes place during the zombie apocalypse, or maybe it is a combination of all these, plus more.

From the searing heat of Sorrow’s Embrace to the grandiose halls of Caudecus’s Manor From the searing heat of Sorrow’s Embrace to the grandiose halls of Caudecus’s Manor

Dungeons are huge, private adventure areas that only teams of high-level players dare explore. The risks are immense but the rewards are great for those who brave the hazards of the dungeons of Tyria.

Each dungeon is divided into story mode, which features a gripping plot and fearsome opponents, and explorable mode, where players can access even more challenging content with new goals and obstacles.

During your first visit to a dungeon, you’ll experience story mode, which focuses on the ongoing saga of the iconic members of the legendary band of adventurers, Destiny’s Edge. In the Twilight Arbor dungeon, for instance, your party will join forces with the famed sylvari thief Caithe in a deadly clash against the evil sylvari of the Nightmare Court.

If your party successfully completes Twilight Arbor or any dungeon’s story mode, you’ll unlock the explorable mode. Your party chooses which of three approaches you’ll use to tackle the dungeon. Each of these three options creates a different version of the dungeon, with new areas, new challenges, and new and more difficult creatures. In both modes, dungeons have dynamic events that can be triggered by player actions, by location, or even by random chance. Combined with the range of strategic options available to players, these dynamic events ensure a different gaming experience each time you enter a dungeon.

There are tremendous risks for those who brave the dungeons in Guild Wars 2, but the rewards are great—each dungeon has its own unique armors and weapons that can’t be found anywhere else. The armor from the Ascalonian Catacombs is different from what you’ll find in Sorrow’s Embrace, which is different from the treasure found in Caudecus’s Manor.

Dungeons in Guild Wars 2 reward players who enjoy organized parties, epic challenges, and delving deeper into the secrets of Tyria.
