Guild Wars 2 : The Gathering Storm Comprehensive PreviewGuild Wars 2 : The Gathering Storm Comprehensive Preview

Today marks the release of new content in Guild Wars 2 – Flame & Frost: The Gathering Storm. We had a team take part in a preview of the new experiences players will find when they log in again. See what we discovered in this, our second big preview, before leaving your thoughts in the comments.

First let’s talk about Spirit Watch. Like most maps the first team to 500 points wins. There are 3 things you can do to earn points for your team. Capture points, transport the orb from the altar in the center of the map to any capture point, and kill other players. It is important to note that you can take the orb to any capture point and score, even those controlled by another team. If you take the orb to a point that you control you will earn 30 points. If you take the orb to a point that is either neutral or controlled by the enemy you will earn 10 points. As an added bonus if you take the orb to a point that is controlled by the enemy you will instantly flip it from their control to a neutral status. This map is all about the elevation changes. Ranged characters can dominate this map. You can get a more in depth look at the map in the video below.

Guild Wars 2 : February’s Flame and Frost Update DetailedGuild Wars 2 : February’s Flame and Frost Update Detailed

With the Guild Wars 2 live event ready to start in a couple weeks, we managed to sit down with Game Director Colin Johanson to talk about Flame & Frost and what it will bring to the game. Check out our exclusive interview before heading to the comments to continue the discussion.

MMORPG: Can we touch base on the Two-Team PVP stuff?  I’m not huge on sPVP, so consider me a layperson and speak to me in small words about what it means.

COLIN: It…is…more…gooder.

Slightly less simplified: two teams fight, we have ratings that track how well the players do, and the game uses matchmaking based on those ratings to determine which teams fight. In the future, we’ll use those ratings to show the best PvP players in the world based on their rating on our leaderboards.

WildStar : Unveiling the Dominion and Stalker ClassWildStar : Unveiling the Dominion and Stalker Class

WildStar is one of those games that has been languishing behind the veil but Carbine Studios is ready to start releasing more information to an excited audience. We’ve got a hands on preview of WildStar, most particularly the Dominion and the first ever information about the Stalker class. Check it out and then let us know what you think in the comments.
Although the Dominion are not quite an evil counterpart to the happy-go-lucky, lovably swashbuckling Exiles, they’re nonetheless a creepy and domineering faction.  The Dominion are a powerful interstellar empire who have their own designs on Nexus and have some history with the planet’s former inhabitants, the Eldan.  They’re thus in constant conflict with the Exile faction, with whom they already have plenty of experience, having originally kicked the Exiles out of their homes.

Independency : Fallen LondonIndependency : Fallen London

In today’s Independency, we take a little side trip from the planned topic to a little game called Fallen London. In it players can dance with devils and much more. Find out more about Fallen London and then let us know what you think in the comments.
A browser-based title set within the subterranean reaches of what may have once been a proud English city, Fallen London is a little bit of Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere, a lot of Lovecraftian mythos, a touch of the creators’ personal brand of humor and a whole lot of good writing. It’s not the kind of game you keep on plugging at and, in all honesty, it barely constitutes as an MMO(your friends will only play a vague supporting role here). Nonetheless, Fallen London deserves playing. In an era informed with throwaway games and questionable writing, Failbetter Games have done something than a lot of big-budget titles have failed to accomplish: build a world worth discovering.

Tibia : 15 Year CelebrationTibia : 15 Year Celebration

Tibia Online fans from the past and present will want to hit game servers for a fifteenth birthday celebration. Developers have a bunch of fun activities for players including GMs handing out rare items and more.
Well known members of the CipSoft team will log into the game each day to hand out rare and unusual items.
Thais, the capital city, has been decked out birthday-style.
The island of “Nostalgia” is now open where players can check out items and graphics from the days of yore.
The oldest player guilds will be recognized by the team for their dedication to the game.
According to the dev team, over 300,000 players “regularly log in to Tibia servers” which is quite an accomplishment after 15 years!

DK Online : Finding the Way to Dragon KnighthoodDK Online : Finding the Way to Dragon Knighthood

DK Online is centered around a heavily PvP centric world. We’ve been playing DK Online for the last little while and have some thoughts to share in preparation for our official review. Check it out before heading to the comments to tell us what you think.
DK Online (Dragon Knights) is the latest offering from free-to-play publishing giant Aeria Games, publishers of Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine and even Battlefield Heroes. Billing itself as a heavily PvP-oriented world, with large guild battles and castle sieges. It has intrigued me so far, but doesn’t seem to have any staying power.
